They don't even have to be square with the scanner border, the software will sense the photo edges of EACH IMAGE and create the image file border relative to the true edge, regardless of the angle to the scanner frame border. Not exactly high production, but a lot better than one at a time - you should be able to at least do 4-5 at a time. If you don't want to pay for a commercial scanner service for your large batch, I assume you are aware that Photoshop and Photoshop Elements (not sure which versions started to support this feature) have auto scan features where at least you can fill the platen with as many small prints as will fit, and the scanning software will automatically see the edges on each photograph and produce separate files for each one in a SINGLE SCAN. It's going to be a time-consuming project. This would speed up the setup process and likely give you enough repeatability so that you could semi-automate the process of extracting the three images from the scan. You could even go so far as to create a cardboard "template" which has cutouts for the 4圆 prints, which would allow you to "drop" the prints into the openings. Alternatively, you could layout three 4圆 prints onto the scanner and scan three at once. If you insert the prints into a clear sleeve, you may have better luck. I suspect that if you try to have the scanner auto-feed the prints, you'll experience a high rate of jamming. A typical 4圆 photo is thicker and often have a little curl to them (not perfectly flat). Most of the auto-feed scanners are setup to feed page sized sheets of paper. However, I suspect that you may have problems auto scanning 4圆 prints without putting them into a sleeve. Professional level 4800 x 9600 dpi resolutionģ.4 Dmax for wide dynamic range and greater image quality Is something like this the right machine? Or am I missing something? Is there a machine that will do what I need for less money? I checked B&H and seemed to only find attachments like this that fit on flatbeds, so I am thinking this may be a good machine.Īutomatic document feeder for documents up to 8.5" x 14"
I just want to scan all the prints from the years before digital.
Special editing features are not really important, and I won't be doing any editing. Not sure how many photos will actually fit in this "30-page" paper feeder. I assume I wouldn't need more than 600 DPI.
It is fine with me if it dumps all the scanned images in one folder. I am hoping to load a stack of photos in and let it scan while doing other tasks, repeat. I have been trying to find the right machine, and I'm wondering if something like the Epson Perfection 4490 may be it? Please advise me if I'm far off or what I'm doing incorrectly. I am new to photo scanning and have a few thousand prints 4圆 (and some 3x5) that I'd like to scan.
